48% of households on Hawaii Island struggled to meet their basic needs before the Pandemic. These were people already making choices between paying utility bills or paying for necessary medication.
When COVID-19 hit, our vulnerable populations needed immediate help--food and basic necessities, support for families with children out of school, masks. We mobilized to provide just that.
2000 Masks made and delivered island-wide for rural health clinics, essential workers, and vulnerable community members. A local seamstress who was out of work while caring for her special needs child was employed to sew the masks.
600+ Kūpuna Packs of food and living necessities made and delivered to struggling elderly
Keiki Packs of learning supplies for children and families struggling to maintain education during school closures
