Did you know that there are numerous resources available to help our islands and communities during this unprecedented time? We all know that many individuals, families, and communities are facing changes. Others are being confronted with some hardships and challenges due to the economic effects that are happening. Whether or not you are looking for ways to obtain assistance during this time or ways that you can give back and help others, here are some invaluable organizations and resources that are available to those on Hawai’i Island and Statewide:
HAWAI’I RESILIENCE FUND – Specifically created to address the growing impacts in our State due to the coronavirus, the Hawai’i Resilience Fund is administered through the Hawai’i Community Foundation. Additionally, Hawai’i Life’s own Charitable Fund will match the first $40,000 in donations received.
ACTIVATE HAWAI’I AID – Activate Hawai’i Aid is a collaborative initiative with various partners such as the County of Hawai’i, Hawai’i Islands Food Bank, Vibrant Hawai’i Island, Hawaii Community Foundation, Hawaii Rise Foundation, Connect Point Church, Maku’u Farmers Market, Hawai’i Island Food Alliance, and others to find those in need of assistance and those who are willing to kōkua or assist during this public health emergency. Check out their website for an Island Wide Emergency Food Access Calendar, links to all of the partner websites, resources for food, health, mental health, financial assistance, unemployment, and more.
SALVATION ARMY – For over 125 years, the Salvation Army has been providing precious and invaluable assistance to the State and Pacific Islands.
BIG ISLAND GIVING TREE – With a focus on working families that may be struggling, the Big Island Giving Tree has an abundant amount of programs and initiatives that make a significant impact Island wide.
HIDOE GRAB-AND-GO STUDENT MEALS – An amazing opportunity for any child 18 years or younger to pick up FREE meals from the safety of the vehicle at select designated locations.
These programs and many others are available state-wide, and there is a focus on the dire and most critical needs of families and communities that are suffering in health, economically and/or financially due to COVID-19.
Other ways to look for assistance or find out how you can help is to inquire with your local churches and business merchants association. Many districts have community members, organizations, and businesses that are all working together and in collaboration to provide aid and benefits to those in need. Take a moment to find out how you can help our islands or receive assistance yourself.
